MARC 21 formats for bibliographic and authority data are data exchange formats that provide the structure of library records. MARC bibliographic frameworks in Koha are cataloging templates and define how data should be captured for different types of material. Before processing special collections a new framework is developed for the catalogers. Please see

Frameworks have no impact on records that are imported via import tools or Z39.50 copy cataloging tools. Copy-cataloged records with different description conventions are edited by enhancing pre-MARC records and by adding missing local elements to imported records.

Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Second Edition (AACR2), 2002 revision, 2005 Update, provides rules of descriptive cataloging and access points. When cataloging according to AACR2, the International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD) prescribes punctuation between elements or areas of bibliographic description.
